Laboratory of Chemistry and Application of Biomaterials

History of LaboratoryThe former laboratory of Lab. of Chemistry and Application of Biomaterials was the laboratories of "Sugar Chemistry" and "Agricultural Products Processing and Chemistry".  The focuses of research and teaching duties are gradually adjusted and upgraded with the changes of societies to meet the needs of country and the development  in agriculture and food science.  This laboratory is belong to one of four study groups of Department of Agricultural Chemistry--Biomaterial application. 
Focus of Research
Based on the fundamental scientific research by using the modern techniques and instruments to study the physical-chemical properties of biomaterials and their potential applications for foods non-food fields are the major duties of Lab. of Chemistry and Application of Biomaterials.  Four major directions of present research are list as followings:
1.      Studies on the properties of biopolymers (carbohydrates, proteins) and their applications as the environmental friendly material resources and natural nanomaterials.
2.      Isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from natural resources (grains and legumes) for functional foods.  
3.      Developments on value-added grain (rice, wheat) processed products.
4.      Water mobility and storage stability of foods (starchy-based, cereals) studied by MRI, NMR, MDSC, CLSM.
